I read a link yesterday when I was looking up meds. - may have been recommended by Wilder (Madonna music) - where salt was suggested as a general preventative measure in a freshwater tank (especially re. ich). ( Tablesalt- non iodised). It was to be topped up with weekly water change.

What are your thoughts/ experiences of this?

Using salt in fresh water aquariums is a fairly common practice. I do not except in hospital tanks, sometimes in quarantine and in my guppy tanks.

It's usefull in many cases. But you need to be carefull that you don't use it with fish that don't tolerate salt well...like scaleless fish.
