this may sound a strange question but my wife has been ill for a bout 2 weeks and has just been diagnosed with Salmonella, which is pretty much on the way out her system thankfully. she has generally had stomach problems on and off for years (gall bladder removal etc etc) but i was doing some reading this morning on Salmonella and there was an article that contained the words tropical fish, that caught my attention. we have both had our hands in and out of our tank on regular occasions during setip re-scaping and sorting out ill fish for the past few weeks. now my brain is working overtime and thinking could she have caught something from the tank ??

has anyone had any experience of Salmonella with a fish tank, I hope its not come from there as it would cause a few issues with the tank ! and perhaps it would have to go as obviously my wifes health comes first.

I dont think you can blame the tank - samonella is mainly caused by food poisoning. The simple practice of thoroughly washing all foods and your hands before eating should rule out further infection. I think getting rid of your tank would be a bit drastic.

yeah obviously washing hands etc, i think it was probably a dodgy kebab or something but it did cross my mind after reading online that tanks had been mentioned, I just know for a fact id be asked to get rid of the tank if it was from there

Cross contamination from handling raw chicken would be a more likely suspect. I've personally got some tank water in my mouth with no ill effects. I had 2 Leopard Geckos I kept for 15 years that are known carriers of Salmonella and we got along just fine.
