Ok so right off the bat, I know tangs should be in a tank of 50 gallons or more, but heres my question anyway. I have a 37 gallon, reef tank, and have been looking at sailfin tangs. my lfs has one, about 2in., and amazing coloration. so my question is, 1) i know they can get big, is it impossible for me to have one with a 37gl? 2) I have 2 clowns, sixline wrasse, scarlet reef hermits, and turbo snails, soon some nassarius and cerith snails, as well as several types of soft corals, r they fine with a tang? 3) will sailfin tangs need seaweed, like on a clip, or good on brine im feeding my fish now? thx for help guyz, let me know

1) Yes, a sailfin will get too large for an aquarium that size and they will do so quickly. And dont tthink you'll be able to easily catch them once they're in the tank... Fish are harder to catch than you'd think with all the rocks in a mature setup.

2) If you had a larger tank yes, those would be safe tankmates

3) Yes, most all tangs should get some plant suppliments for their diet to promote good longterm health. They will eat meaty foods, but should have the roughage too ;)

50 gallons is still too small.. closer to 100 UK gallons is needed as minimum.

Sailfins grow extremly large very quickly. I have 5 tangs in my 220 gallon system but im parting with these fish (im devastated about this as they are so dear to me) when i downgrade to a 140 gallon system.

why u closing down ur tank m8? was it that pest anenome? or just moving house or summit? still big tank which i would want!

I recently had to get rid of my Sailfin adftre having to re-house all my stock from my 90g to a 45g, I hated getting rid of him but I couldnt keep him in a small tank like a 45g

Whatever your LFS says a Sailfin would be very unhappy in a 37g

Without hijacking the thread....
The tank simply costs to much to run, majanoes are doing my head in and its too big for the house if im totally honest.
I was far happier when i had my 40 and my 100 gallon system so i want to try and return to a size that i can fond more managable. :/

ive never asked my lfs about a sailfin, i just know from constant readings of tangs and tank sizes, to know that having any tang in a 37 is unreal, just wonderin if it was maybe possible. but no biggy, thx for the help.
