I had a very healthy, active, fat female molly with a large abdomen of babies. Last night I knew she was going to give birth soon and decided that I would put her in a breeder net or trap today. Well, when I woke up this morning she was dead on the bottom of the tank :-( . She was not stressed, so I am wondering if there is a sickness that could of caused this? I am experienced with diseases and have only had a few of my breeders die. None were from disease but from stressful labor or a full still birth. Any suggestions would help. Thanks!

I would personally never keep a female in a breeder trap for more than 10 hrs, if she hasn't had any fry then, she won't further on. I prefer letting them have them in the community along with dense plants or giving them a 5 gallon for themselves. No problems, no stress.
I'm very sorry about your loss, I hope you recover soon......

I agree about not putting them in a breeder net...mine hate that. what I do is I have a 10 gallon I use as a q tank, but haven't had to use it in awhile. I put my momma's in there for a few days, when she has them I return her to the big tank. I thought by putting my momma's in a breeder net I could save more babies...thats not true. The breeder net makes it harder for the fry to get away from the momma. My female molly had fry yesterday, and she ate 6 of them before I could do anything about it.
