Today i bought a sailfin molly.Saw him at an aquarium i never have visted before. Fell in love with his colours so had to have him. Now he was in a tank with other males-similar colours and variants. They all looked like males due to their lower fins.In the same tank were mollies of smaller size, all white and they were females. As i got talkin to the very young lad in the shop he informed me they all came in at once and from the same batch but he didnt know if they were the same breed. we looked thru some books-found them and the illustrations and wording describe the fish correct as males and lesser attractive females.I bought a pair-m+f but have read articles that they rarely breed and the males will die in under a year.is this true? The mail is already around 6-8cms long. the female being 4-5 cms. any info on these i would be very grateful. many thanks!!

Molly are quite long lived fish if their happy, however their very sensitive to poor water quality, if you dont do water changes and allow the water to go slightly bad the will soon die!

I've had some mollies for 2-3 years befor, but I'm not a big molly fan how ever their are many types out there and as said already if u got a photo then thats all the better.

Many people will tell you, u need salt in the water, but some other fish don't tolerate salt what so ever, so u do have to be careful.
But if u keep the water good your never need to use salt, as salt helps to reduce the stress on the fish.
