Hi, i was wandering if it is easy to keep sailfin mollies. n wat temp do they prefer the water to be ph, wat ever info u think i should know would be great. thanks in advance.

They get pretty big, 3+ inches. You should have 1 male to two females if you breed them. You probably need a 20+ gallon tank for them to live comfortably...

Not sure, but I believe they are from brackish waters, so they'll need salt...

I believe mollies benefit by having aquarium salt. Also, sailfin mollies are supposed to be more sensitive than the common kind. I'm sure it isn't more difficult than exotic species but something to keep in mind... ;)

i think i might have to do a lil more research on them b4 i buy them. i just saw them in the pet store today when i went there to get sum melafix. they looked really cool n i want a fish that i havent tried b4 thats reasonable in price. even though im not sure how much they were :dunno:

Yes, 20+ would be great plus you could easily keep them in there with some bottom feeders and some more live bearers ..............they love brackish water that is there natural habbitat..... they are 9.99 here but if you breed and your lfs will take them the more expensive the fish the more you get ...... my molly i had had for 1 day gave brth (i think she loved the brackish water) i managed to catch 15 and chose to let a few battle it out in there .......but regretfully she died I have a 29 gal. tank with opne male sailfin and 3 swords 1m:2f they get along ok but im getting a pair of females soon ....also my molly fry seem to have been very much better at living than the sword :p but they are BIG fry ....they wont require much more than your avg. molly of course if you invest in a fish that is 2-4$ more you want them to live best as possible so try to keep them in brackish water with other live bearers and a tank for fry/birthing or just net em like me :)

i just noticed ur from tn. cool sry its off the subject

This is a litlle off subject as well: 12.99 for a pair of sailfin mollies!?! I must have found a great place because I have seen them much less than that. Could probably get 4 for 12.99. Unless the ones you found are better bred...... :D

From the store where they were selling platies for $4, was also selling sailfins for $8, so my rule of the thumb for them is roughly twice of the common platies...

But I have to admit, I haven't seen them in other LFSes...
