I have a power filter on my 20 gallon tank.I was wondering if you could put a peice of mesh or foam around the filter inlet tube so they wont get sucked up?

Would this affect my water condtions or flow by allot?

I used to use a cut piece of pantie hose to put over the filter intake thing. I just replaced it at every water change. It didn't bother my tank's water conditions at all. And it didn't change the water flow any.

did you knot it , or use a rubberband?

Depending on what kind of filter you have, you might be able to find a way to stick some filter foam in there. That's great for keeping out fry, however it can restrict your water flow. Breeder nets and pantyhose seem to be the favorites, however just make sure you keep it clean so it doesn't clog up.
