 Well, I have SAEs and they have been just fine. I recently started co2 up again after my last generator blew up. the co2 is doing wonders for my plants. but my SAEs breath very heavily when the co2 is injected where as all my other fish are fine. what can be done?

What CO2 system are you using?

Do you try to measure CO2 levels? If so, what levels are you achieving?

how do i measure again?

Damn! I was hoping you wouldn`t ask me that.

The simplest way I find is to take a sample of your tank water and leave it to stand for 24 hours. If the pH increases by a value of 1 compared to your tank pH, then you are in the ball park for 30ppm.

DIY kits generally struggle to make enough CO2 to have fish gasping for air from what I have read.

How big is your tank, and what CO2 system are you using?

it is a 72 gallon. It is a DIY system. 5 gallon water cooler container as a generator. it last for about two months at a time. the last one got water in ther check valve and popped

how could i kill yeast if I have too much in there?

You need to check you CO2 level but I VERY much doubt that a DIY system has got a 70G tank to 10PPM, never mind the "recommended" 30PPM. DIY CO2 usually falls by the wayside at about 30USFG. It is very unlikely that the CO2 is the stresser for your SAE. I would be looking for other reasons. Tank mates, water parametres, temperature, water circulation rate, etc.
I just reread your post. You have more than 1 SAE in that size tank? That is likely the issue right there.

I think 6 SAEs is gonna stress them out. they are a shoaling fish after all... temperature might be it as it is 79-81. No clue how to cool it down. the lighting is too hot. umm.. but i super aerated the tank and now they breath normal. I would say it is co2....
