So as well as starting biting, I think Peacock may now have this :( He's always had a little discolouration at the base of his dorsal fin, but the patch has got bigger, there's some definite white 'fluff' and the front ray of his dorsal fin is loose.

I've gone straight in with the myxazin. I couldn't capture it in the pictures, but it really looks like rotting, like it's eaten into his back a little bit. :-(
On the plus side, i think I can see signs of regrowth on Lotus

hiya :)

Well, just to start off, if it is columnaris i think its hard to treat it. My 5 were wiped out as i noticed too late.

are they all in individual tanks?

It might be beneficial to ask in the Emergency Section, Wilder will defos be able to help you out! :)

Good Luck

Yes, they're both in separate tanks. I lost a betta to columnaris a while ago, it was very fast, on his mouth and he didn't last a day. Peacock seems totally fine otherwise though, still eating, colour good, etc.

So its defos Columnaris, yep?

I personally would strip down his tank, bleach everything, then treat him in a bare tank, with only a heater. As the filter will have the disease in the media and the substrates and plants will house some germs too.

It would be easier treating him in a bare tank, so you are sure that the diease has nothing to *hide* in so to speak.

:good:

I don't know aly, that's just my diagnosis. As I understand it, columnaris is present in all tanks, fish catch it when their immunity is low etc. The tank where the betta died wasn't stripped down, I just ran a course of myzaxin and the new betta has been fine in there for over 10 weeks now :good:

I had columinaris and treated it

it can be done if caught early (and I didnt treat them properly I read the instructions wrong)

plenty of food, keep them strong and they can fight it - i overfed slightly to stop them getting weak

Yeah, I think there are two types of columnaris, the acute kind which tends to come on really quickly and is likely to be fatal, and then the type which comes on more slowly and is more amenable to treatment. Hopefully ellena, your betta has the second type and he may respond to treatment.

Thanks Haych, I shall get him on the bloodworm straight away then :good:

I'm dosing the melafix each day, and it hasn't changed. No worse, which is good, but no better either. Started him on the bloodworms and he's still eating fine etc. Today is usually pea day followed by starvation day tomorrow. Should I still do this do you think? He is a little fat.
Should be getting the new heater today to even out the temp. :good:
