Sad Platy :(

I have a female platy. She is quite young and small. Everything looked normal in the afternoon. A few hours later, I look at her, and her belly is huge.

So I think she must be pregnant. Later, shes very quiet\tired lying still around different places in the tank. So I think she might be near to giving birth, or a little uncomfortable.

In the evening, she starts moving around the tank, looking like she's in agony. Flying up to the top of the tank spinning. Then she starts twsiting and turning, she looks like she's in alot of pain. Then she sits still for a while, makes another leap, and goes to the bottom of the tank. Whilst this is happenning, I'm thinking she may be in laboour. She's still breathing at the bottom, but she then suddenly dies. Very sad to watch. Normally when fish die, they go very quiet, and don't move much?

Does anyone know what happened? Was she pregnant.

i dont really know what would have caused her death -though her actions sound a bit like the shimmies. you say she just became "fat " in the course of one evening , but earlier she was small? platys get larger due to pregnancy over a couple of weeks - not hours. maybe she swallowed something she shouldnt have?

Dosn't sound like she was pregnant if she just got huge all of a sudden, sounds like a bacterial infection to me, was there anything dangling from the anus.
Can you post stats in ammonia,nitrite,nitrae,and ph.
