Today has been a very sad tank day for me. This morning I go to turn on my tank's lights and say 'hello' to my babies when horror of all horrors! I find my beloved platy George laying dead on to the bottom of the tank. :-( My poor Georgie! He was one of my original platies who survived my fishkeeping ignorance, the complete horrible cycling process and a really nasty aggressive guppy who terrorized my tank for a while. :(

I screamed for my hubby who removed him from the tank for me. At that moment I noticed my poor Angel, Goldie, had also had a mishap overnight. One of her long fins (sorry don't know the term) looks to be broken up near the top. :/ It's all loose and bends with the water currents. Nooooo!! She's still swimming and eating as normal so hopefully this won't have any lasting effects on her?

I checked the water perams... amonia -0, nitrite-0 and oddly enough nitrate - only a trace amount (not sure why this level has dropped in the past week?)

Anyway..just wanted to share my sad day. All this on top of me having the flu and feeling crappy all day long.

thanks for listening!

Val

Ohhh...poor George. I'm glad your hubby at least assisted you. My BF wouldn't even think of doing it for me. Hope Goldie will be OK. Take care of your flu - I've just got over it myself, 2 long miserable weeks of it!

Awww. So sad to hear about this boozybears. It's always difficult to lose a beloved fishie. :byebye: Remember all the joy he gave you and I hope that you may have many more lovely fish that give you just as much joy.
Hope Goldie gets better soon.
Make sure to rest up and feel better soon too. :)

im sorry :( at least you looked after them well

and had someone else remove them for you....! I wish i had someone to do that for me.

check your nitrAte test, mine registered a trace amount for ages till i noticed reagent #3 had separated and there was load of sediment at the bottom :/

Awww... :(

Sorry to hear about your platy. Any idea what could have gone wrong? Was it just old, perhaps?

What about your angel, how did it get that injury? I hope it recovers soon

And also, i thought i killed the tummy ache demon for you already, need me to kill the flu demon as well? ;)

P.T.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I have no idea what happened to George so I'm just going to have to say old age.

PT - guess your tummyache demon kicking needs a little bit of work :p But feel free to try again with the Flu demon! They say practice makes perfect!
