Well its a sad day all my fish died. I woke up this morning to find my everything in my tank was off filter air and heater and my fish looking very bad and one dead ( the rest quickly followed ) and tank temp at 60 F I have come to the conclusion my wife when flipping the light switch accidentaly hit the switch that controlls the outlet that runs my tank so im a little upset I get my new 85 gal tank tommarrow so I spent the day cleaning out my 30 gal tank and getting ready for the 85 gal tank. I also went and got a ball python and everything needed for it and he now occupies my 30 gal tank but I miss my fish they were great little guys :shout:

I can imagine how your feeling at the loss but I can also feel the guilt your poor wife will feel too. One of those times you have to forgive and forget and move on.

Your new tank seems to be the ideal opportunity good luck and great success, all the best.

Sorry to hear about your loss!! from what it sounds like your new fish will have an awesome new home and not to mention you get another new pet!
I know it's probably not the way you wanted it to be, but I'm sure it will all work out for you!

Sorry to hear that MikeD67 :-( Time to look on the bright side and focus on the new tank.

This can so easily happen that its quite a worry. I have by mistake not switched back on the heater and next morning the fish were so dull that I tested the water. Only then did I realise how cold it was... I felt a bad fishkeeper and now check their lifelines each day. If its any help, your experience won't have been in vain, as it wasn't for me, however lots sympathy.

awww how sad, just as a note to anyone reading this, if it happens to you be very careful bring the temp back up.

a quick water change and the filter coming back on should get rid of any ammonia/nitrite and most fish will recover from a short exposure like overnight.

however the temp gradually dropping very low then coming quickly back up will be too much of a shock for them to deal with which quite probably killed them. So if it happens to you check the current tank temp and set the heater to 1oC higher than that and leave it to warm up, then give it an hr or so at that temp and then turn it up another degree and leave it an hr again, continue until you have reached your usual temp. :good:

Thank you everyone for the thoughts and yes you all are right time to focus on the new tank and I have defenitley learned to check the tank before going to sleep now.

I feel your loss. Its horrible to loose children.

I had something similar happen to me in 2005 winter. We lost power for 3 days, so I had no heat or filtration in the tank. The first day without power I knew they would be fine, So that night I feel asleep thinking the next morning we would have power back. I was wrong. This happend to my 30 gallon. I had two large Angle fish. One I had for a few months, the other I had for about 5 years. Both died and all the other fish were almost lifeless. I tried the best I could to get heat back in there. I hooked an inverter up to my car and ran the heater and filtration off that to bring the rest back to life.

The Angle Fish of 5 years was my pride and joy, I think I almost cried that day.... :( My GF never seen me go bizerk so quick and run so fast from one end of the building to the other.
