If any of you remember, the female that used to be in my Azoo tank battled a lot of diseases - fin rot and ich at the same time, then fungus, and then finally dropsy. Her dropsy got absolutely awful over the last week, I've never seen a fish worse. She finally passed... RIP my friend. :byebye: She fought long and hard.

The happy part? I have a new gal to replace her. Mom just happened to be at Walmart when they got in a new shipment of bettas, so she called me to ask if I wanted one. Of course I said yes, so she picked out one. She got me a big gal who looks to have black and maybe steel blue fins. They're very different, I haven't seen a female with fins as dark as hers, but yet the wild-type looking body. She has the darkest stripes I've ever seen on a gal too, it's very cool. She loves her new home in the Azoo, and has already hit the lid trying to jump out quite a few times. I will try to get some decent pics of her soon.

awwww, first of all congrats on the new girl!!! Mom rawks!!!

Secondly, don't beat yourself up over the dropsy :/ I've only dealt with it once and I know that it is horrible but I've learned since then that it is hereditary (sp?) kind of like the way diseases run in human families, so there's really nothing you could have done to prevent it :)

Julie, I'm gld you have a new "love interest" to help you through the loss of your little girl. Chin up... :)

ALASKA

ps. Chris, I'm refering to the new fish - ok...

Thanks guys... I knew she was going to die, so it was a little easier than if she had keeled over one day. Anyways, wuv - I had no idea about dropsy running in families, that's really interesting. I know it's sort of like kidney failure in humans, which can also be hereditary..hmm.. interesting! That does make me feel a bit better too, because I felt so helpless. Thanks!

Hi juliethegr8t

I'm so sorry to learn your betta died. It's extra sad to lose one that fought so hard and for so long. :byebye:

But I'm glad your mom brought you home a fine new girl. She's a lucky betta, indeed!

Sorry For your Loss Julie.

Lost My Red Eyes to it this week.

Sorry about your fishy death :byebye: :rip:

But your new fish sound like it's pretty cool looking. do you breed your bettas? cause if you do that could be a really lookin neat line. B)

I am sorry to hear about your females death...unfortunately sometimes there is just nothing you can do. I am sure you did all you could to help her.

I saw your new female in the picture forum...she is truly a beauty

Wuvmybetta that is a very interesting factoid thank you for sharing I had no idea that is was genetic and I am sure many other betta lovers also did not.
