I have a 55 gallon tank that seems to be a algae magnet. The algae is a reddish rust colored and seems to propagate faster then a rabbit on viagra. The tank houses 1 6 inch JD and thats it. Cant add any other occupants as Boris hates intruders. I dont have any live plants seeing as though I could kill even a fake one. My question is this. How do I slow the growth of this algae? Am I not doing enough water changes? I currently do 15% every 14 days. Could I possibly be feeding too much? I have a bad habit of dropping a pellet or two in everytime I pass the tank. Im a sucker for his puppy dog eyes. Thanks in advance :)

I generally have them on roughly 12 hours give or take. the tank does not recieve any direct sunlight either.
