A few months ago I rescued a couple of teeny Ottocinclus's (or is it Ottochinclus? My brain! argh  ). Anyways I think they'd been forgotten at the lfs...one was in an empty lightsout tank and I almost didn't see it hiding on the only piece of plastic wood in there :X. The other was alone in a mixed fish tank. They also had tanks with groups of much larger ottos in them so I was thinking these two got overlooked. As I was needing to buy about 5 ottos anyways I included those two in the batch and the store clerk was really surprised to see them in those tanks when I asked for them specifically, which supports my theory they got forgotten and not fed :( .

The question since then is: they are thriving in my 29 gallon along with 2 other ottos(or 3, maybe, but one is always vanishing on me! ). However those two have never grown at ALL. Could they have been starved too long? Can you have runt ottos? I have a runt cat I rescued, never did grow very big but healthy as all get out.

Anybody got any experience with this? Just curious.

No experience with this, but it seems plausible. GL keeping your runt otos, if otos don't get a steady supply of food, they will starve because they need to keep certain bacteria cultures alive in their bellies. Make sure food is regularly available!

Um I'm heading out of town to visit relatives in 2 days and will be in the big bad city. Any suggestions on otto foods which I could buy there and bring home? The only things we have here for them are those dried algae wafers plus algae if I overlit the tank of course :p and right now it's REALLY clean and clear. I sometimes grow algae on stones in other glass bowls and then put them in as snacks. Is there any kind of prepared food they might like? Any suggestions welcome.

cucumber and courgette. I just cut a centimeter slice of cucumber, poke a plant weight through and drop it in the tank. Courgette do the same but blast it in the microwave for 10 seconds first or they don't seem to be as bothered about it. Mine also eat shrimp pellets and catfish pellets.

Yes cucumber is a hit with my otos. Takes them a few hours to realize it's there though, usually I wake up in the morning with the thing covered with otos.

Mine also eat algae wafers regularly, as well as sucking on every surface in the tank. They seem to love my filter intake tubes.

Otos will eat carnivore food once in a while, but it shouldn't be a mainstay.
