We've had Flame a few months now and she's never been very well in all that time. She's just had her second treatment of Anti internal bac and just won't eat anything apart from the occasional bloodworm. We have tried absolutely every kind of food imaginable.

This is a pic of her after her first anti bac treatment over a month ago.........she picked up for about a week or two and then went downhill again.

This is her now :( her poo is very stringy and she's just finished another course of anti internal bac meds but hasn't picked up this time. She's completely lost her colour poor thing and just mooches around.

If anyone has any ideas they will be very much appreciated.

Thats weird.... the only thing i can suggest is turning the heater up a little, and do regular water changes.

Are there any rocks in the tank that you haven't tested for harful metals?.... or ...maybe an allergic reaction to the anti bacterial medicine, as you have been using it since it first started?

I'm not sure if fish can have allergic reactions but it may be a possibility

I don't think it was anything in the the tank. She has been in the sorority tank on and off and all the other females are fine. The tank we put her in during treatment was set at a higher temp and had regular water changes but nothing has helped this time.

She's such a beautiful girl and it's awful to see her looking like this :( :(

Bless her she a little cutie.
Have you tryed peas.
Long stringy white poo can be constipation, bacterial infection, internal parasites.

You could try soaking her flakes in garlic juice to stimulate her appetite, also it boost the fish immune system helping to fight desease off.

Hello

Peas = Tried, wont eat them
Garlic soaked = Tried, wont eat them

I think we've tried just about any food we could think of :good: Am beginning to wonder whether its constipation or internal parasite?

Whats the best treatment, in your opinion, for these?

Cheers Wilder

Depends on which internal parasite it is.
Only good meds available in the uk are from vets like levaimsole for internal parasites, best to issolate the fish if you think it is internal parasites, as it can spread to other fish even by sucking poo up.
The fish can look slightly swollen in the belly region with consipation.
Cod liver oil for constipation, you just add two drops in there mouth, but don't feed for a few days afterwards.

Thanks :good:
Her belly isn't swollen at all, the oppostite really. Looks really drawn.
I may be able to get hold of some Maracyn or maracyn 2 (its on ebay and they will ship to uk, Shhhh)
Would that be an idea?

If the belly looks sunken in that can be internal parasites.
Its illegal to buy maracyn one and two in this country, so its down to you if you buy them, you can buy them its the importing of them that illegal.

Ok. I know some people have managed to get it, and its probably cheaper to pay for shipping than going to a vet over here

The only other thing that sprung to mind was worms? Would that be classified as a parasite?

Sorry for all the questions :)

Internal worms a fish can get round worm, thread worm, internal flukes, camallanous worms thorny headed worm there loads of them.

sorry to hear about your fish  hope he gets well

and also, why is maracyn illegal in this country?

thanks

paul

Just went and spoke to our vet...........didn't have any idea what to do.........he did give me the number for the vets that cover Newquay Zoo, they might have a better idea.
Have now put her in her own jar now, just in case it is parasitical........think its gonna be a case of keeping water clean and wait and see?

she looks like my little cam. Her belly is sunken. i have tried meds on her and almost lost her twice she is so tiny the meds seem to hurt her. She is now in a small tank with warm water and frequent water changes. When I feed her she only eats tiny flecks of food. :good:
