Hi
I am new to this forum and really want a tropical fish tank - Can anyone help me with some basic info?

I would like to get a BiUbe 35litre tank for tropical fish with a light and heater - how much will this cost me either weekly or monthly to run??

Many thanks!

Hi, :)

:hi: to the forums

biUbes (and biOrbs) are not, IMHO, worth the money.

they are expensive (at least £100.00 for the smallest without the light kit etc) and very small (35 litres will not allow you to have very many fish at all)

i would suggest spending your money a little more wisely and buy a proper aquarium tank of about 15 - 20 gallons.

You can buy complete set ups with heaters, lights, filters etc and, if you shop around, should not cost much more than your "Ube" or "Orb"!!

You will then be able to keep a greater variety of fish. Also, the larger the tank the easier it is to look maintain.

Take a look at the pinned articles in the beginners section before you make a final decision. They should help.

Good luck. Its a great hobby.

Homepets,

Welcome to the forum and the hobby. Thebaldranger has pretty much said it all in his post but I will add that your start up cost will definitely be the biggest expense. I haven't noticed a significant difference in my power bill since I got my first tank in December. I can't imagine it costs too much to run a small pump and heater around the clock and a light 6 to 12 hrs per day, maybe less than that if you have fake plants.

One thing to beware of though: FISHKEEPING IS ADDICTIVE. As I said, I got my first tank (29 gallon) in December (actually a Christmas gift for my wife who had always wanted one). MTS (Multi Tank Syndrome) has now set in and we have 4 tanks running and a new 75 gallon that I am waiting on the equipment to arrive for. It's addictive but it sure is a lot of fun and a wonderful hobby. Good luck!!!
