today i was looking at my shoal of rummynose and couldnt find one. I had a shower and came back and there was a rummynose floating on top with no head (something bit it off) im suspecting my blue acara since its the biggest but still only measures 2 1/2-3 inches. When I was giving another rummynose a saltbath for fungus he didn't do so well after he was put back into the tank and the acara tried to eat him. Do you think he eat the rummynose in good health or did it die and he found it and took its head off?? I'm treating the tank for Culmnaris (hope spelling is right) with furan 2. Well the rest be found with missing body parts next morning?? :/

R.I.P.
To be honest don't know if he ate it alive or dead.
How many gallons is the tank.
I would go to rhe right part of the forum on the fish and ask there if you are keeping him with the right fish, as to be honest know nothing about them.

You didnt really answer his question at all....I guess you were just suggesting for him to post this somewhere else right?

Can you post all the fish that are in your tank? The blue arca probably killed it.

Know nothing on a blue arca best to go to the right section, so they can say if she's keeping the fish with the right occupants in the tank.

ok my tank is 25gal high this acara is a strain of the normal one and only grows to be about 4inch supposedly. ill rehome if it gets any bigger. heres my fish:

1 firemouth
1 blue acara
3 cory cats
4 rummynose

yes i know i did my homework not only did i check on the blue acara fish profile here i went to many diffrent websites. some say 5inch or some say 6inch somesay 4inch. i was having second thoughts after i bought it just in case i couldnt rehome so i called my lfs (the good lfs) and told the fish expert what my problem was. he said hes kept them in his own tank and these ones should only grow 4inch. max.

and mine looks alittle diffrent. the color of mine isnt so purple more yellowish

hmmm.. ok well it says theyll eat most comm. fish so im not sure... that was a day ago and he hasnt killed any overnight...

i wouldn't be at all surprised if the acara ate it, read that profile it'll tell you they're not suitable to be kept with small fish like livebearers. OK so I'm not 100% sure if rummy noses are livebearers, btu they're well within the size range to get eaten. As I and I'm sure other members ahve told you before the acara is not a suitable fish to go with your other stocking. I've told you before that if you don't re-home him it will end in tears, it looks like it may have started.

poor fish

rummynoses are not livebearers, but they are in that sort of size range (sort of guppy size), so it's not at all impossible

that was my thought, the blue acara needs to be kept with similar sized new world cichlids. It's peaceful amongst them, but it will look on any small fish like tetra's, guppies, rasbora's etc as food.

Sure you havent got a green terror (Aequidens Rivulatus)? they are very often confused and offered for sale as blue Acara because thats what a lot of shippers send on ordering Blue Acara.

Aequidens Rivulatus - Green terror

Aequidens Pulcher - Blue acara

Google for lots of images!

The green terror is much more territorial and much more likely to munch your other fish!

Still wouldnt put it past the blue acara though!

Good luck
