I just want to tell everyone who has never had rummy nose tetras that they are the most entertaining fish! I have a variety of fish in 3 community fw planted tanks and my rummy nose make me laugh so often. My 55g has a strong current in 80% of the tank, and they play in the current like little kids, very amusing.

Cheers

Rummy’s are very active, shoal very well and look great. But the group I had annoyed me with their repetitive swimming up and down the front of the tank. It was continues and really bugged me.

I must admit when I had them I didn’t have much décor/plants in the tank and that might have been why they stuck to the front glass like glue. I might try getting a small shoal again and hope they use a bit more of the tank.
:good:

hi i was thinking of getting six to put in my 50g tank, my only concern is that any fish under an inch gets eaten by the angel, an expensive lesson i learned when i got a group of rasboras for my tank, and got up the next morning to findd hem all gone

This is one of those fish that don't usually look their best at the LFS. Pictures don't really do them justice either. A healthy school in a planted tank looks fantastic and their schooling behavior can't be beat!

There are actually 3 species which are commonly sold as Rummynose tetras:

Hemigrammus rhodostomus The original, true Rummynose.

Petitella georgia known as the False Rummynose.

Hemigrammus bleheri is probably the most commonly seen and is often referred to as the Firehead tetra. Better red colour than the previous two which extends past the gill plate.
