Help me, my rummy nose just died he was swimming fine then I fed them and he did a kind of fit and died
I checked the water and it is

nitrates 10
nitrites 0
th soft
tac soft
ph 7.5
Any help would be great
He had this white patch in side him, right under is fin not on his skin but under the skin if that helps

Any idea what the ammonia levels is? It should be 0ppm and if the tank has been set up for a while it probably is. But it should be checked anyway because ammonia becomes very toxic in alkaline (PH above 7.0) water.

Rummynose take a few weeks to settle into a tank and can drop dead from stress or shock. Even something as simply as turning the lights on or feeding them can cause them to have a fit and die. Once they have settled down they are usually fine and don't have any more problems.

The white patch under the skin could be a muscle wasting disease or an intestinal worm/ fluke that has gotten lost and become lodged in the muscle tissue.

Check the water for ammonia and if it is ok then try not to do any work on the tank for a week or so. Turn the room lights on 30 minutes or so before the tank lights go on. Only feed the fish small amounts throughout the day. Increase aeration/ surface turbulence if you can.

Thanks Colin :) I will test for ammnia and try the 30mins test in the mornings  thank you, you have been a great help

is this in the same tank s your 'sad' guppy? if you are having difficulties with more than one fish in there i would suspect there is an infection of some description in your tank :)

was he skinny too like the guppy? how is the guppy today, does that have any white patches on it?

I did a ammonia test and all is good 0
yes this is the same tank and no he was not skinny he was eating great and was fine untill i fed him and he had a fit or some think,
The white patch was in side not out and know the guppy does not have the same if there is an infection what can I do I have put the guppy in my smaller tank
and she is still the same just sat there still not eating all the other fish are looking great moving fast and on patchs eating good so I dont know any help

To post a pic you click on “More Options” under where you type the reply.
A new page will open and there will be a box in the middle where you can type stuff.
Underneath that box is something called “Attachment Editor”.
There will be a button called “Browse”. You click on Browse and find the image you want to upload to the forum. Then click on “Upload”, this is next to the Browse button.
The image will upload to the forum and then you can click on “Add Reply”

Sorry but she died I think she had cotton mouth or the one with the mouth open did or they all have can you help what do I do to stop the other from geting it

Cotton mouth with is flexibactor columnaris will look like fluffy cotton on the mouth, strands of cotton, or bleached out white lips.
If no other fish are showing the symtoms, I would just do a few water changes over the next few days.

So far its just the 5fish so lets just hope that is it fingers crossed thanks for your help
