My rtb shark just wont leave my 3 bronze cories alone. Its strange he doesnt bother my 2 jullies . Does anyone else have this problem?

I've had this problem but not with cories. My rfbs (very similair to rtbs) attacked my gold and blue gourami's constantly. All you can really do is rehome him or provide more cover for the cories. Does the rtbs have a nice log or ornament that he really likes to hide in. I found that adding more cover made the shark less aggressive and allowed the gourami's to escape more easily. I eventually had to rehome my shark.

Yes there are many caves but he just chooses to annoy the cories and only the bronze ones lol

I had the same problem, my RTBS completely ignores the albinos but will hassle the bronzes. I added more plants & made some more caves out of slate, I found my RTBS likes a really snug fitting cave & now chases are few & far between.

Does it harass the fish all the time, or only at feeding time?

Also, in my experience with a rainbow shark, they will chase any fish that will not fight back or that continues to run from it. Some fish that it chases will just move out of it's way, but will not run from it. I believe the rainbow shark just wants something to chase. I put a red-bellied pacu in my tank in the past ten days and the rainbow was aggressive towards it until the pacu started to fight back...now they get along fine.

Also, my blue gourami has been harassed by the rainbow, but will not run from it, it just moves gently out of its way. The rainbow calms down so long as the fish it is harassing does not run from it.

Try adding a few more rtbs's if you have room. They do like to school and having a few of his own kind may dither some of his aggression that may just be playfulness.

do NOT add more rTbs to that tank. BAD IDEA. They should be kept singly. I know from personal experience that they do NOT get along. I had four in a tank. One took over the other three hid and shriveled up. The ALPHA shark i guess you could say got big and fat while the other three got little and weak. I eventually had to rehome all of them. Please do not add more rtbs to your tank

I dont really want to add more. Yes he chases them more when they run from him. Ive made more caves today so hopefully that should sort it.

Allright, sorry. I had one rtbs for a while in a 60 and he was also really aggressive, Then I added two more just to see if he enjoyed the company and they actually did really well together. I guess every fish has it's own personality. :/

nah I'm sorry I shouldn't have jumped down your throat like that. Like I said I had really really bad luck with rfbs, and from what I understand rtbs is alot worse. Fish do have different personality's but this is one fish I would not risk testing with.

To run a school of these, you would need 6-8+ of them. Any less and one is bound to die as they mature and will harrass the smallest to death. One is best. I have found that the more plants you have, the less he chases others. Mine spends 95% of his time skimming plant leaves and diving into bushy plants. Its fun to watch as they are good as swimming upside down and backwards in and out of plants. I now have more problems with loaches harrassing my fish than the rfbs. Hope this helps. Algae is also a part of their diet so plants with them is highly recomended or throw them an algae wafer every few days. But if you fish fight over the wafers as mine often do, plants are the next best thing IMO

Thanks for all your advice. Making more caves didnt change anything. More plants are going in today although i have quite a few already. Yes he spends alot of his time skimming over plants but when he catches a bronze cory out of the corner of his eye hes off chasing it. When they stop running( or swimming lol) he leaves them alone. You would think they would wise up by now.

if this is the case, then try putting multiple peices of algae wafers in the tank...maybe he is just hungry and feels threatened by the cory's as they are bottom feeders as well maybe taking up much of the left over food in the tank....just a thought

Another glimmer of light maybe, if like mine your cories eventually will stand their ground when the shark is flashing them so if they don't run the shark gets bored & goes back patrolling his territory. Another thing has helped is the lay out no dead ends so the cories never get cornered. my cave's are probably better described as tunnels, the plants tall thick leaves planted around the cave my shark has adopted, the more it has to occupy it's time in it's territory the better.
