I'm gutted, my Rope/Reed fish that I've only had about 3 weeks just died suddenly, I noticed about 2 hours ago that it was hanging in one of my plants, still breathing so I picked it up, normally it wouldn't allow this so I knew something was wrong. I then noticed around its anus that it was all red and swollen, then when I touched it loads of half brown/ black egg like things came out along with blood. I seperated it to a smaller tank within the main tank and put a little salt in there. The fish was moving slowly up to the surface and back down again, I then noticed it lying on the bottom curled up but couldn't see it breathing. As I lifted it up it was limp and lifeless. Poor thing was so peaceful and normally moving around the tank happily, in the week I noticed that 2 of my X Ray tetras disappeared, I found one half eaten against the filter but never found the other one, I wonder if the rope fish ate this and caused problems. My tank does have Ich in there which I am trying to treat with the heat technique only my clown loach have ich at the minute the Rope fish never showed any signs of this. I just don't understand what could have killed my favourite fish out of them all. I'm so gutted.

Does anyone have any advice? I don't know if the fish was carrying eggs or what but it wasn't very old.
