i am going to use tropia plant nutrition + and i was going to use root tabs aswell. should i use tropica plant nutrition + root tabs or should i use something different?

I would stick with Tropica. Its the best available OTS fert in europe so no reason not to use their root tabs as well.

using root tabs can help keep the nutrients in the substrate and reduce algal problems.

I dont know wether you are trying to wind Andy up or what lol, but root tabs dont keep nutrients in the substrate, are you getting mixed up with CEC (cation exchange capacity).

If the root tabs are pushed an inch or more into the gravel then the water won't come in contact with it much and the majority, if not all of the nutrients should stay in the gravel and not mix into the tank water. If it is in the gravel then the plant roots can use it but the free floating algae won't have access to it.

I think Aaron is meaning that they don't 'keep' nutrients in the substrate. They 'add' nutrient to the substrate.
