Hi, I'm fairly new around here. Been lurking for a while, but this is my first post, I think.

My mom has a 260 ltr tank, which is about 240 litres when you account for the rocks, plants and other decor. Currently it houses:
1 pleco - about 8 inches
4 Buenos Aires tetras
5 black widow tetras
7 platies
7 rummy nose tetras
1 female Siamese fighter

In my tank I have 2 corydoras catfish and a male Siamese fighter which are all borrowed from my mom's tank with the idea of breeding the cories. I would like to buy another cory or two because I think they'd appreciate the company. (We only had one cory until I recently learned they like to be in groups so I went out and bought another one.) However, when I go back to uni in Ocotber, the fish in my tank will probably have to go back into my mom's tank, so I want to make sure I wouldn't be overstocking it.

What do you guys think, is there room in the 260ltr tank for all of the above plus another cory or two?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, the backstory with the fighters is we bought (what we thought was) two females, then one grew up and developed male finnage. We watched them carefully, expecting to have to take one back, but they are actually fine with each other. The male often hangs around in some floating plant at one end of the tank, he's quite shy, and the female has the run of the tank basically, she's much more adventurous and curious, so they don't fight over territory. There's never been any aggression between them in the years we've had them at all. I'm aware that this is unusual, as I say we were expecting to have to rehome one of them, but I guess we got lucky.

I was just wondering how many years you've had your fighters for? most only live to a maximum of two years. and you mentioned youd had them for years. Just got me curious :S

I've just looked back in my Mom's fish diary and it says we bought them on the 20th January 2004, so 1 year 7months. I wasn't too far off I guess! Feels like longer though...
But anyway, despite our expectations, no problems. Not even any fin-nipping. :look:
I appreciate the heads-up though.

Does nobody have any opinions on stock-levels?

Hi Kaida,

Since corys stay mostly at the bottom of the tank and there are only the two corys and the plec down there, (four if you get more) i don't see that they would make a huge difference, it's not as if all your fish swim at the same level and bump into each other. Just keep up with regular partial water changes. Corys prefer to live in groups anyway so they'll be happy.

Well i tihnk that is the average life expectancy but i read the scientists in labs had kept bettas for over 7years keeping them alone in a 10gal tank feeding them good high protein food and the 'excercising' them by chasing them around the tank with a net for a few minutes each day.
I guess it depends on the quality of life you give your betta

that makes sence.........but thier so called "exercise" is really bad for them at least i think it is......y doesnt someone have a rapid pittbull chase after the scietist 10 min a day
