Just boil them to get rid of that stuff and yea they will be good... can make a beautiful addition

tyo check to see if they're safe for your aquarium pour some vinegar [or any acid] on the rocks..if they fizz they're no good! or else just boil them and plunk em in!

Why can someone not boil rocks? that's stupid... everyone always does, i don't know anyone who DOESN'T. Sure they stay hot for a while...but you give them time to cool down or put it in the fridge/freezer for a while... that's a dumb rule IMHO.

from the last page of the pined topic
I've just read on another forum of someone who was boiling rocks and has ended up in
hospital with serious burns and many broken bones.
the postee is a police officer called to the incident and was warning someone else about boiling rocks
in their thread about them.

in light of this I have changed my original post and it now reads
Also you should pour boiling water over your rocks or wherever possible immerse them in boiling water to clean them and to kill any unwanted bacteria that may be living on it. Do not boil or roast in an oven and never use a microwave to heat up rocks.

I really can't tell you guys strongly enough about the dangers rocks and heat have, so just please all use some common sense
and hopefully there will be no similar accidents to any of the members here.

The only reason I know of not to boil them is rocks may contain air pockets which expand when heated and may cause the rocks to explode. I pour boiling water over mine but never boil them.
