Hi All,

What would I have to do if i wanted to use some rocks from my local beach in my tank, the rocks are smaller fragments from rocks that are used as part of the sea defences, I think the biggest piece is only about 6" in diameter. My local LFS told me to boil them up for approx half an hour, let them cool down in free air and then give them a really good scrub, but not to use any detergents or anything like that, which I knew already, and then just give them a good rinse in clean water. It isn't that I didnt believe him but I thought would just double check first with you guys, A couple of the rocks have come from Cornwall and I think would look fantastic in the tank, Not sure why I added that last bit but never mind.

Thanks

:good: !!!!! Sorry I didnt see the post below which has answered my question. !!!!! :good:

OK you can search these forums as this is the 3rd time it has been asked this week but if your having a problem with this.

Boil the rocks for a hour.
Let cool in open air.

Cover the rocks in vinager and if the foam up or react to teh vinager then they are still not good enough.

here are some links from the search

beach 2

Thanks for that I have just read the posts.

Thanks.

do the acid test to see if they are ok that is add a couple of drops of vinigar and if it fizzes it can't be used as this would have calcium in it

When you get the rocks out from boiling they will be hot 4 a long time

AND DO NOT MICRO WAVE THEM AS THIS COULD MAKE THEM EXPLODE UNLESS YOU WON'T TO DESTROY YOUR MICRWAVE!!!!!!!
