Hello,

So I got my rock shrimp about a week ago ish and I saw them in my tank on the day and the day after, now I cant see them at all and I have tried moving things in my tank but still cant find them, have they got out of my tank? i cant see them.

Also I have seen about 3 days ago that I have baby plecos in my tank and I know there should be about 20 ish but can only see 3 have they been eaten by the shrimp maybe? As I have looked under everything I have and can still only see 3 (only 1 or 2 now)

I feel as if everything is going wrong as I have some nitrite or nitrate im not sure what one it is :( but I keep testing my water and I cant get it to go down, I have not give my fish any food for about a week now.

Please help me I just don’t know!!

Many Thanks Eigdoog

Is it nitrite or nitrate levels that you're concerned about? Either way do weekly water changes of about 20- 30%. Also search very harder for missing fish. Plecs are quite good at hiding, but if the worst has happened, then you need to find their bodies. Otherwise your toxins will continue to rise. Another thing to consider is your substrate, when is the last time you cleaned it??

Tis a silly question, but some people do forget and any debris that has built up in the substrate will also release toxins as it decomposes. It's always worth giving your substrate a good vac anyway to keep it clean :good:

What's your current stock out of curiousity?

Thing is i dont want to suck up any baby plecos

also how come when ever i do water change i get cloudy water and my nitrite/nitrate always goes up? thats why i have not done a water change

i will do a water change though

Ok tip for siphoning without getting small fishy friends. Use a small piece of netting held in place with a rubber band. Not your normal fish tank net though. It's too fine and will stop debris being sucked up.

As for your water going cloudy and nitrites levels rising.. I've heard that some tap water does carry extra nitrites/nitrates so it might be an idea to test your tap water and as always use a de chlorinater.
