hi there, just want ur info on this...

i get RO water from my parents our tap water has a 4.0 nitrite reading and after the Reverse osmosis its 0.1 my quastion is,is the 0.1 ok for fish and inverts ?

i also recieved one 25 litre can with fresh spring water from a farm nearby and it tested 0 for nitrites is that a better water to use then ?

my tank also tests 0.1 for nitrite and my ammonia is also 0.1 wich the booklet says is fine for a tank with 27 degree and a ph of 8.5 is that correct ? as far as i knopw both should be 0 and with my test kit it means the test must turn out complete white. where my nitrite is now a very fade color of pink wich is white when complety nitrite free...

help appreciated..

about 300 i think, its a new unit about 3 weeks old... the fountain water that the place here sells has been approved by some place as clean,i test no nitrites in it,think i should use that...

No I do not, The minerals will be high and there could even be copper?? You just dont know a simple TDS reading could answer your question stragiht away!

If your TDS reading is 300 its bad very bad it shoould be 0ppm!!!

You got a faulty RO unit if its a new membrane! or you got a dirty TDS reading??

ill see if i can get the tds reading from the fountain water and maybe order my own RO machine..

thanks pengy....

I'd always be wary about using water that isn't filtered. The reason being is that water taken from a natural source can fluctuate anyway in terms of its TDS and other chemicals dissolved in it, as well as bacteria and parasites that may also be present.

I'd be especially wary since the water comes from a farm, as chemical fertilizers, pesticides and god knows what else could find its way into the water table. I know its handy because its cheap, but for peace of mind and the potential impact on your wallet of having your tank nuked, I'd stick with the RO water myself. :good:

i decided to stick with the ro water as well,

though of the pestecide thingie as well..

thanks for the input

are you sure its an RO filter and not a carbon filter? 300 tds on a new membrane lol.....
