hi i just checked my water for nitrate and it seems really high which is strange as i do regular water changes, so i tested the water straight from the ro unit and it is the same, does this mean my filters need changing?
thanks

Well..something is wrong. RO water should have zero nitrates. The first way you can test your RO filter is to get a TDS meter and check the water. SH

Yes as SH said you need to test your RO water with a TDS unit. Nitrate test kits apparently will not work with RO water and the results will be wrong.

What level are your nitrates, what size tank is it and how often/how much do you do water changes?

Nitrates do creep up over time but on their own they dont really do much harm (unless they are insanely high or you have an SPS dominated tank).
