What is your pH at right now? R/O is not needed, and neither is an HMA filter. What's wrong with your Discus? pH is not causing all your stock to die off.

I think you got these discus from jagz yes?, he only used HMA water when doing his changes.. i dont know if that helps you out m8.

Why are you taking LFS advice? You took it last time, as they convinced you to buy an R/O unit right? And it obviously didn't work (as I predicted.) Just going to ask here as it seems your not going to take our advice, why post on this problem then?

7-7.5 pH is fine, don't fiddle with the pH. If the Discus were born and raised in HMA water then that might help but there is something wrong here, your Discus were fine and breeding, and now they are black and have finrot, something is wrong here and fiddling with the pH will probably only make things worse, were you using the R/O water before this? How often do you do water changes how much each time? What do you put into the water when doing a water change? Any new fish added recently?

Myxazin is not needed. Fin rot can just as easily and less stressfully be cured with water changes.

No offense taken, I was just curious. You got to watch out for those LFS though, lots of them are bad news

Good luck with the Discus. Hopefully the HMA works, keep us posted.

I might add, for now, try doing more water changes. If you can manage 50-80% daily then I would do it personally, don't think it's going to hurt as long as the pH, temp are the same. Water cures all. ;)

i thank you ones again for your help i am just ordering a hma unit now devotedly discus iwll keep in touch still mates i hope thanks :good: :good: :good:

IME, fin-rot comes about due to poor water quality more often than not. Remember your test kit only offers a snap-shot of how your water looked when you drew the sample. With Discus, a small spike of Ammonia or Nitrite can bring-on fin-rot, and that small spike can easily sort itself out before you draw the sample, in a few hours in some instances with mature filters. I think once you have them cured, you need to investigate possible causes, and try to prevent them occuring again. Water quality aside, fin-rot is often stress-related...

All the best

If you have a RO unit then you may already have the ability to make HMA water. Most RO units will come with a sediment pre-filter followed by an activated carbon filter, they filter tap water before it goes through the RO membrane to prevent damage to the membrane. A HMA unit is basically a sediment pre-filter followed by an activated carbon filter which you should have on your RO. Could save you some money. I use my RO unit to produce both RO and HMA its easily done with a couple of ball valves and a 2 way diverter.
