i have 4 guppies 1 betta 2 clown loaches and a dolphin cichlid which should'nt be in there.

This week ive noticed all my guppies have began to get ripped tails and i just got back from work and my bettas fins have been ripped i think its th dolphin cichlid what does everyone else think?

Do fins repair?

Yes, fins will usually repair - you can use something like Melafix to speed it up.

I'm not sure as to the culprit, but out of interest how well do your guppies and betta get on? Bettas are well known for mistaking guppies for another betta and attacking them, so I'm wondering if he might have osmething to do with it.

could be the dolphin, african cichlids can be incredibly aggressive and should be kept with they're own kind

it could also be the betta, betta's and guppies shouldn't be kept together as the betta looks at the long flowing fins of the guppies and think's it's another betta and wants to fight them

you need to re-home some of your fish, the betta needs a tank of his own and the dolphin should be with other african cichlids

the guppies and betta have never got in each others way and my guppies only have small tails im guessing its the dolphin as its always annoying all the fish the place i bought it from said they are peaceful fish

how long do the fins take to repair and will the bettas fins repair OK

if the water quality is good and they don't get stressed they should repair themselves in time, depends how bad the rips are but it can take a few months.

however if they are stressed (by being picked on by the dolphin) or the water quality is poor they can develop infections and this could get serious if left untreated.

get that dolphin out of the tank asap and do extra water changes to keep the tank nice and clean
