i am sorry little one i didn't know you were in the filter. last night the filter cap that protects the fish fell off. i just put it back on not thinking anyone was in there. this morning i cleaned the filter because it was not working at all. i discovered why little ophellia must have swum into it or got sucked in and died as a result. i am heart broken i was just starting to get to know her. i have only had her for three weeks now. i bought her because i knew when getting betta females you needed to have three, two i knew i wanted opehlia i just got because i needed a third. i was delighted to discover her little personality and was hoping to attempt breeding with friday.
i am sorry ophelia that i did not know you were in there.

So sorry to hear about Ophellia but I don't think you're alone. This has happened to us before and other people we know. They are just such nosey, inquisitive little fish that they end up in places they really shouldn't be.

:rip: little Ophellia

thanks guys.
i just need to make sure that cap is tight now. i guess fish keeping is a live and learn kind of experience i am just sad it cost this little one her life.

will the other two girls be ok if i just leave it at two?

More would be better and I would keep a close eye on them as they will now start re-establishing their pecking order. Probably would be better to introduce another female now rather than later.
