my betta has a large rip in the back fin and it has not improved or gotten worse, i have used countless medicines and he acts normal chasing gimpy (the danio) and eating food. he does like to hide behind the filter, is it possible that it is not fin rot? he also has a lump in the back fin and it looks like a growth. any ideas?

hmmm... might be an idea to provide pictures so we can diagnos. The tail could have been ripped on something sharp, etc but that combined with a lump on the fin could mean more. I am new myself, I am sure one of our betta experts will come along soon. And is definately acting all normal?

If its just the one rip then i assume its not fin rot but that it could of been caught on something sharp that you may not know about, to improve the situtation iw ould use quarium salt(aquarium salt is always good for healing), keep the water in good quality and feed a varied diet, just keep an eye on him see how he goes. :)
The lump may be an infection or an irritation, but id wait for an expert to judge that, goodluck

thanks, a bit of regrowth is occuring

If no one is able to answer here I would perhaps post in the emergency section :) Hope someone can help soon
