Hi All,

Finally got my tank setup yesterday, how long does it take for the air bubbles/water to clear from the tank?

ive also noticed that the water has gone a funny colour after adding a piece of mopani wood (it had already been soaked at the LFS) but we soaked it for a further week before adding... should this be removed or will the water clear within a few days..

cheers

the bubbles will dissapear in time maybe a few days/a week. the wood has released tannins which give the water a tea colour, this is natural for alot of amazon living fish and wont do any harm infact they will appreciate it. if you dont like it then over time wil regular water changes it will go but it may take a while.... the other way is to add carbon to the filter as this will remove the tannins and any other chemicals etc.

some people hate it as their water doesnt look crystal clear but i quite like it as it gives a more natural look. i have a cory tank set up intentionally with tannins and the fish seem to love it so it cant be a bad thing.... it really depends on the size of the wood as to how long it will release them though

the piece of wood is about 30cm long and 10cm high (roughly)..

ive had my bogwood for 5 months now, tried boiling it leaving it in water. The previous owner has it for 2 years, still leaks tannins. Just going to do away with it and get some nice rocks/pebbles i think.

also as danb has said boiling it will release alot of tannins and leaving it to soak in hot water will also help but the only way i know to clear them from the tank is carbon in the filter which clears it up in a few hours and keeps the water clear.
