Siamese Fighter05
Fish Herder
Hi everyone
One of my friends is looking into buying a new tank, either a rio 125 or the 180. He has some experience with tropical fish and has a couple of tanks set up already like myself and he keeps up with the maintenace of those tanks. He is now looking for a bigger tank and he liked these two tanks in particular. I have seen some of the stocking arrangement of other members on this forum with the rio 180 and was wondering if you could help me with the stocking levels for this tank and the 125 version. He knows that he wants some cory cats a schoaling fish and some discus. I am not sure if the discus would be ok so i have came here for some help on these especially. From looking at the size of the tank in the shop i figured that it should have enough depth and height for these kind of fish. I have gathered that they prefer higher temperatures and need very clean water. As i know that they like warmer waters i suggested some sterbai cories as they can live in warmer waters compared to other cories. I have shown him a picture of a members tank on here. I think it is gf's wonderful tank which i also think is a rio 180 by coincidence. After seeing this picture he had decided he wanted a shoal of cardinal tetras and a pair of discus who imitate digweed
. I have shown him about fishless cycling and everything he needs to know and can also help him setting up the tank and the cycling itself. he has the money to purchase the full setup and all ther other bit-and-bobs needed for the tank but i dont think he will be able to buy an R.O unit also. He lives about a street away from my house, so id guess he has exactly the same water as myself. My main question is can discus thrive in a Ph bang on 7. And Meduim water. I know medium isnt enough, but when i didnt have as much information as i have available to me now i did a hardness test with the two kits i then had which are now missing
and following the guide i remember reading that my degree of hardness was medium on the scale although i cant remember the figures to give you a more exact answer. For the 180 i though this stocking would be ok:
6 sterbai Cory cats
8 Cardinal Tetras
2 Discus
If the discus are a no-no i could try and talk him over to angelfish although i tihnk he has his heart set on discus. Is this stocking level okay for the 125 also?
Thanks Dan
