so i decided to do the flourite layer. i took everytrhing out of my tank and stored the water and fish in a huge 50 gallon tub thing.

now im rinsing and i have been for 20 min.
this flourite stuff DOES NOT GET CLEAN
it stilal clouds up the water.

the thing im worried aobut iit is it seems that im rinsing so much that it is getting rid of all the good stuff.
is this true? or am i just over worrying?

anyone with flourite experience? how long did it take to clean flourite?
im cleaning 30 pounds of flourite too..... so... yeah

Panboy, I haven't had experience with cleaning fluorite, but I have cleaned a lot of gravel in my day. Are you trying to rinse all 30 pounds at once? Doing smaller amounts usually works better for me....less time consuming, plus you get a more thorough cleaning. Hope this applies/helps. :)

no not all at once.

im doing probably 1/4 of the bag still
and still clouding up.... i did take a break.... but still

i didont knwo it whoud be this difficult

Might consider breaking it up into even smaller amounts....say just enough to cover the bottom of the bucket you are rinsing it in. Either way, it's a time consuming job, but I really think you'll find smaller amounts will get the job done more thoroughly and efficiently.

thanks for the help.

i never knew flourite could be so horrible to rinse.
the water almost turned into mud! so dirty and brown

i asked a family member to help, and that helped a bunch. he grabbed all the gravel at once in a big bucket and started to rinse it there, while i grabbed small portions (thanks to your idea) and rinsed those off.

it went a lot quicker this way.

my tank looks great now with my first layer of flourite and then a second layer of small pebble gravel

I had to empty my 55 gal tank and start again. But now I have a 3/4" layer of sand on top of the flourite and everything is fine.

Glad to be of help, panboy, just one of those things I learned through trial and error (mostly error :p ), good to hear everything working out OK now. Got plants yet?

yeah ive had plants for a long time, i just thought they could benefit alot instead of plain gravel.

ill try to put up some pictures soon. i had a TON of contortion val, but threw away half of it just because.... i had so much, so my tank is looking more on the empty side
