hey guys

my GBR's have got some more eggs now to protect, they seem to be doing a better job in protecting them,as last time the female ate them all,lol

i am going to atempt to keep them in the tank until they hatch, and then maybe think about taking them out.i would take them out now,but they have laid the eggs in a pit in the substrate,so i have no idea how to get the eggs out safely!!

im in a sticky position as i have no spare tank now to put them in, i have a tiny glass tank from pets@home,would that be ok?

if i leave them in there and they get to the wriggle/free swimming stage,im affraid they will be the victims of my fx5 :-(

what can i do realy?

i dont mind setting up this little tank, its probaly 15L maybe abit more, will they be ok in there, and how long until i need to get them a bigger home?

then comes on how do i get them out safely? they are dead centre at the back of the tank, next to my airstone (which is good) in a gravel pit. they are laid about 2.5ft away for the intake of the fx5!!!

any ideas or advise please?

Heya,
I cant offer any advice but thought I would say congratulations and good luck! :good:

EDIT: Ooooh actually I have and an Idea, why not get hold of some really dense black tights (Colour is not important but you want see black) and wrap it around your filter intake that way it wont be able to suck the fry up? :shifty:

good idea mate :good:

only down side is virtualy all the crap go's in there,i have found a perfect flow in the tank with the outlet of both the internal juwel and the fx5 running around the tank, and pushing all the crap straight into the intake, works a treat!!

im wandering if any of the other tank mates would eat/harm the fry if i left them in there?

i have:

mum + dad GBR
2 more BGR's 1 male,1 female
6 gold rams
4 keyholes
9 corys

can you place a sponge over the filter? or make a air pump filter?

you could try them with the corydoras only tank =/

got home and all eggs gone!! :-(

im realy gutted as mum and dad were protecting them so well at 1st,they must of ate them :-(

Next time you get eggs if you dont want to put them in a different tank then get either a tank divider where you can section a bit off to put them in, or a breeder trap hatchery. That way the eggs will stand a better chance , you wont need any extra equipment, and the water will be of a consistant quality to when they were laid.

You can move the eggs by using a turkey baster - just suck them up and spit them out where you want them!

they might eat the gss the first few times; its nothing to woory about buddy :good:

they will get better over time; and spawn more frequently :)

if you want to rear them by yourself, siphon them out (or like Gilli said turkey baster) and put them in a new tank.

But im not sure here, dont you need to fan the eggs :S?
