Ridiculous

Ok so, I just watched two of my female guppies give birth to about 20 fry, about 6 were eaten within an hour by the other tank mates, but when my pair of German blue Ram cichlids cam out of there birthing stones they completely obliterated the rest of the fry within 10 minutes, they even ripped apart sections of java moss where the smarter fry were hiding. I knew Rams were aggressive towards fry but is this normal aggression? Or am i starving them? I feed them every day with various flake and shrimps food, but is this still normal?
Im just looking for information regarding this

I'm finding it hard to believe you're keeping guppies and rams together.

haha, i am, and they work amazing, the Rams are incredibly gentle to all fish except of course, fry.

not to question you. But don't guppys like waters PH between 7 and 8. And don't RAM's like waters around around 6,5 or lower.
Thats my main reason for not going for the RAM's for my tank yet,my Ph is not going below 7.

They shouldn't be togheter rams and guppys.

But maybe i am wrong.

I thought guppy's where pretty hardy fish and could cope with the lower PH level's?

Thats exactly right, guppies are very hardy with there PH, and will live happily with rams, its the exact same case for both Tetras and Guppies, they have different PH preferences but people all over successfully use these fish together

But what's your PH by the way,my interest is the RAMS not the guppys,my water is PH is 7.So far not ready for RAMS. I wanted to get some.

You tried peat moss mate?? works a treat, My PH from the tap is close to 8.0 and with the peat moss balls it lowers my PH to around 6.6

Oh okay got ya,
right now i have my PH at pretty much the midway point accounting for both species
which is about 6.2
Around this PH i would extremely recommend rams, they are awesome fish
im actually looking to add some Apistos to this tank for even more coloration

and agreed with the peat moss

I heard about peat.But where can i get it?
My water is the same comes 8.0 or very close to it. But i heard peat can change the water colour.
Anyway after the green water i had 2 weeks ago from algae anything else is an improvement.
Have to find a way to try that. Want a shot at the RAMS.
And in the long term future when i'm experienced enough want to try discus.

That's the only let down it does change the colour of the water slightly, but if you have wood and plants in the tank and the right lighting it gives the tank a very natural look. I got mine of ebay ill try find the guy i got it from n give you the link mate

Cant find the guy or peat moss on ebay no more (I bought a few months back) Are you running an external filter? If so, apparently you can get peat moss media for certain manufactures of filter. So if you do have an external I'd keep a look out and see what you can get.
