I recently acquired some riccia (i dont know what type)
and i dont know what to do with it?
Do i have to tie it to...rocks or something?

My goal is to set up a cherry shrimp tank.

It was given to me a riccia....do you know what it is?
Sorry, i thought it might be a different type, and since it looked different i didnt really know what to do to it.

also
..just throwing this out here.

I have left over sand from my leopard gecko (who is now on tile)
would it be alright to use it.
Its made of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate.

Would it harm potential plant or shrimp i want to put in?

same again looks like riccia thats been grown in low light...
regarding the sand I wouldn't use it, the fact that its calcium carbonate means that it will raise ph and this is detrimental to most plants since the most popular/common plants like acidic water.

I'm not sure, I've had loads of riccia in my time, but it could be the pic's can u get a photo if some in the water from above?

yeah thats riccia fluitians. in my guide it's the same as the riccia on the blue grid, the main "lawn" in the tank. it grows longer than dwarf, more like a grassy lawn than a tight mound. you sure do have a lot of it. if you follow the guide you will end up with a similar result given enough light and co2.

you cant really see it clearly from the pic, i magnified the image and could make out the shape of individual pieces

Aha! I'm seeing it now. I saw the long bits and it looked like something else.Never knew it was that much bigger then d.riccia.
Sorry :look:
