How well will riccia take mopani wood. I have a LARGE piece, and want to plant on it. I was told riccia was a good choice and to tie it on, but how well will it root, and will it all break off and fill my tank with leaves. :)

It won't root. Riccia is a floating plant that can be help down with netting, cotton, etc.
The wood (or slate) is just to keep it weighed down. :)

Clicky.

Java moss doesn't really root but does attach itself after a while.

Anubias barteri and var. (nana, nana petite etc.), Microsorium pteropus and var. and Bolbitis heudelotii are all ideal for attaching to wood.

Common Names? What do i ask for? Im new to plants :)

Anubias nana, Java fern and African or Congo fern.

The trouble with common names is there's room for misunderstanding i.e. there's 3 or 4 varities of Anubias barteri, the same with Java fern. Most shops will stock the common variaties though.
