My riccia has a really funky smell to it....And there are patches of brownish mushy bits.....

Is it still usable? Or will I need to ditch the whole lot of it? :grr:

edit- maybe it's just me being over judgmental because of a bad day.... -_-

How long has it been in the tank?
HAS it gradually gone this way?
What lighting are you using?
What ferts if any do you add?
Do you use any form of CO2 injection?

Andy

It wasn't in the tank yet, I had it in a clear tupper-wear thing on the table. I was getting ready to put it in last night and noticed it had a pretty bad smell to it. I'm going to try washing it tonight...but...if it's already beyond help I may need to chuck it....

If it smells and it is in water already I would chuck it or float the plastic tub on the of the water (thus keeping it seperate from the tank water)

It may be that it hasn't had enough light!!!

Andy

I have it floating in a tub of tank water....I could try putting some light to it...but I don't have a spare lamp laying around

Nobody knows? I've had it under light for the past few days, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better....I tried putting some on a bit of slate into my tank and it's started to turn yellowish green in colour....Is there no hope for it?

:'(

a yellowy colour usually indicates a lack of iron, add some chelated iron fertiliser to a seperate tub and let it flot in there for a few days.

Just an idea
