I was always under the impression that this was a plant that required high lighting levels. Whilst looking at http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/ riccia section ;) i noticed that it could cope in low-very high light. So, I was interested in your success or failure with this plant, and the lighting levels you used. Perhaps it just takes ages to form the carpet in low light?

Cheers

I've had Riccia Fluitans growing in tanks with lighting ranging from 1WPG to 3WPG. In the 1WPG the growth observed was not as dense, meaning the carpet was not as bushy and also each individual strand of Riccia looked thinner. Sometimes nearly translucent. It also never pearled unlike the 3WPG set up. The colour of the Riccia is also a lot more vibrant green in the higher light level tank, where as in the low light level tank the plant displays a not very attractive yellow colour.

I've always grew it with about 0.8WPG, and it grows like wild fire, however it doesn't pearl under low light. (Could be due to not having Co2 aswell).

I have some too, I suppy them about 1.75WPG of lighting. They look nice, growing good but hardly pearl. I think they need higher lighting to pearl.

agree with all above. i had it in my cube, grows fast floating but pretty pointless making a carpet of it. it will survive but you wont get the pearling unless over 2.5WPG with plenty of co2.

my sig pic is riccia in my rio180 with 2.5WPG and pressurised co2 at 30ppm. (plus EI ferts and trace)

up to you if you want to try it but dont expect it to look like my sig unless you add more light.
