I had a zebra danio with a swim bladder problem started adding the tonic and after 3 weeks the fish was fine again. A week later either the same z.danio or a different one got the same problem and Im currently treating again. My water is PH 8 Nitrate 5 Nitrite 0 Ammonia 0 29 gallon tank.

What causes swim bladder problems?
Should I use a carbon filter after the treatment to get rid of the tonic?
Carry on with the same filter?

I keep up with my water changes of 20% a wwk so whats causing this problem?

Cheers Matt :p

It could be that your fish are suffering from constipation rather than swim bladder. The symptoms are almost identical. What do you feed them and how often? To the best of my knowledge, swim bladder is very difficult to treat and cure. The common cure for constipation is to feed the fish a cooked, shelled pea, usually after you have withheld food for 2 to 3 days.

I feed flake food and cat fish pellets for my catfish- my other fish try to eat the pellets. I very very occasionaly feed bloodworm and protein food (not together). I feed once a day usually around 8-9 on the evening and the light goes off at 11pm

It may well be swim bladder then. Unfortunately, I'm not very knowledgable on diseases (actually it's fortunate for me that I haven't had any problems, knock on wood) so I can't help you much. I'm sure there have been many threads about swim bladder though. Try searching the forum to see what you find or maybe post in the Emergency section since you have another fish that needs help.
