I have just bought my self a bare bones 20 ro unit off ebay, and was wanting some info on how to use it? can i turn it on and off manually by turning on and off the tap? what does the 20 gallon per day mean?:)

You bought something without knowing even the most basic info about it?

I'm guessing you bought it cause you have some fish and someone told you they were good things to have.

Sell it. Unless you have discus or marines, you don't need it.

And no, you need to plumb it into your mains water supply. If you want to turn it off, you need to add a stopper into it.

Hi...I have a an ro/di unit. It depends on what equipment and hookups it came with. This is mine:

Although this is a pic of it before it is connected. the water goes in thru the intake , red tubing, which enters the lowest left white canister, goes thru all three and goes upward where it exits the clear canister on top (which in this pic, doesn't have the resin in it). The yellow tubing comes off the ro unit and is a backflush. My unit has both a faucet attachment and a garden hose attachment. I just connect it up and seconds later ro/di water is coming out the top blue tube. It IS slow tho', so, plan ahead if you need water. Mine is rated at 100gpd but I average 10-15 gpd. Good luck.
