Hello
I made the mistake of adding too many fish too soon so I am returning my Zebra Danios. They are not sick but I am worried about Ammonia. So I decided to return those before my 14 Day warranty at Petsmart is up. I will get a water test and some live plants. Then slowly add some new fish. I was think Neon Tetras because the fish have to get along with Mollies and a Male Betta.

Any Suggestions?

Mollies:

pH: 7,0-8,5
temp: 25-28'C
dH: 10-30 (medium hard to hard)
Aquaium minimum size: 70 liters (18,4 gallons)

Bettas:

pH: 6,0-8,0
temp: 25-30'C
Soft to medium hard.
min: 60 liters (18,8 gallons)

Neon tetras:

pH: 5,5-7,5
temp: 21-26'C
Soft water.
min: 40 liters (10,5 gallons)

I wouldn't add neon tetras, since as you can see, the preferred water for them is quite different from mollies and bettas. They are pretty, yes, but could be sickly in conditions not too suitable for them.

How about platies?

Platy:

pH: 7,0-8,7
temp: 22-25'C
dh: 10-30
min: 40 liters (10,5 gallons)

But, only if you water is suitable for even mollies and bettas, even somewhat. What kind of water do you have? Temp, pH?

Usually people take fish that are suitable dor their tank size, suitable for their water etc, not just fish they want. And if you reaaally really want a certain kind of fish, then you get a tank big enough and make to water better. But it's easier and safer to add only fish that are suitable for your water as it is.

Neon tetras arent a xood cxoice, not because txey prefer different conditions, but because txey are very sensitive to new tanks. youll want to xave txe tank runninx for about 6 montxs first.

your waters perimeters witx xardier fisx are trivial in txe lonx run. most bexinner fisx will adapt to txe water you xive txem, and ultimately cxanxinx it to even water txey may prefer will be more xarmful txan keepinx txem in water txat is too xard or too or acidic or not acidic enouxx, but txey xot used to.

Most fisx in trade can adapt to different water conditions. Unlike wxat txe above post is xintinx at, keepinx fisx in water slixxtly out of preference is not a crime. Especially xardy fisx like danios and sucx. Every fisx in my stock likes neutral and soft water, but my pX is 7.6-7.8, and my water is very xard. My aunt even as 6 year old black skirt tetras, never been diseased, and txeir pX is at 8.

Txe only issues Ive xad witx txis current stock is an icx outbreak txat came rixxt from txe LFS, and I cured it witx water cxanxes and notxinx else. You cant say teir immune systems are weakened wxen you xet txose results. Txe otxer residents txat were in txe water lonxer txan txe store icx fisx didnt even xet txe disease. Not even txe scaleless fisx.

Is your tank cycled already? if it isnt, dont even add any more fisx. If it is, you can xo witx more xardy fisx like xarlequin rasboras, xlow lixxt tetras, and black neon tetras.

If you keep up witx your water cxanxes for a few weeks at most, keep txe danios and let your filter catcx up witx txe load. Txey may prefer cooler waters, and may want a little more space, but I kept txem in 78 dexree temps for years wxen I was a kid in a tank only 2-3 feet, and txey all live xappy and lonx lives. We only did water cxanxes once a montx and wasxed txe filter sponxes under xot water. Lots of no-nos. But txey lives txeir full lifespans actively and xealtxily. Cxances are takin txem back to txe store is not xoinx to xive txem a better xome. Maybe a different xome witx txe same conditions at best. Or a 2 xallon sponxebob txemed plastic tank.

In my experience, danios died, and we're more susceptible to disease when in warmer waters, half of them died within a month, in warmer waters, now I have them in an unheated tank and they are fine :good:

Any particular reason why littering your post words with random "x"s?

My ph is 7.5

I will test everything else tonight at the pet store when I return my Danios. I heard rasboras are aggresive...Is that true?

broken keyboard, I find txe xuman mind particularly xood at fillinx in blanks. x just seems like a xood variable to txrouxx in txere to say OX XEY, TXE LETTERS BETWEEN F AND J DONT WORK

i uess its better tan talkin like tis and avin absolutely notin to symbolize tat a letter is supposed to be tere

xonna be xettinx a USB keyboard if I cant redeem my warranty, so txis sxouldnt xo on for any lonxer txan anotxer week.

Ive never xeard of axxessive xarlequin rasboras. People consider txem xreat pieceful scxoolinx fisx. Youd likely xave more issues witx tetras and danios.

Oh Ok! Thanks! I will definately consider those! Are they hardy?

Petsmart doesnt sell those :( How about SwordTails?

IME txeyre touxx as nails. I xad one alone txat txe LFS xave me on accident instead of a bleedinx xeart tetra, and txe lfs didnt take it back. I didnt xave any place to put it but witx a bix scxool of buenos aires tetras wxicx were more axxressive and nippy txan tixer barbs, and it xot alonx fine for a couple montxs till I found somebody else to take it off my xands. Ive never actually kept a scxool of txem, txouxx. But I cant imaxine txeyd be any less xardy if you kept txem properly. I know I didnt.

dont txink it would work out witx sword tails. Txey mixxt be a bit axxressive toward your betta, or txe otxer way around.

swortails are definitely not a good choice, there bright colors and long flowing fins will be a target for the betta, and swordtails are also a bit nippy toward bright colored fish with long flowing tails in my own experience, how about 8-10 harlequin rasboras instead, i know that my petsmart sells those..... even though i rarely visit there

Hey! I took out my betta...Have it on its own. I could not catch the danios. Help! How do you catch them?

FYI Danios and Bettas apparently can not get along. I found a headless Danio in one of my plants.

thats probably whats going to happen to your mollies too. and i would catch them by lowering the water level alot, taking out the plants and then trapping them in the corner, and then scoop them up. i would do the same thing with the mollies too :good:
