Please see my previous post where I had half the fish disappear: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/406935-fish-being-eaten/

So... with the remaining fish (5 neons, 2 algae shrimp, one Rainbow, 1 cory) I wanted to add to actually have some fish to look at!! Told the 30yrs in business fish shop the situ (as I have before all along anyway!) and came home with 2 more Cories as know these like to be in groups, 6x orange coloured neons (not sure on name but smaller than normal ones), 2 Mollies and a leavey plant!

Firstly I noticed the plants' leaves kept breaking free and floating around the tank, not a pleasant sight - it was next to the bubble blower so thought maybe that was causing the leaves to blow off, so now away from it and doesn't seem to move much but still breaking off! Is there anything I can do about this, I notice the shrimp always latches onto them and climbs on the plant, could it be them who break them off?

But more concerning, I've now noticed 2x less orange neons (absolutely no sign of them!) and a shrimp was eating the remains of one of the Cories!! It's crazy, there's a wat going on with whatever fish I have in there, and have now lost about £35 of fish in 6 months!

Is it the shrimp attacking them as I noticed it's only a shrimp eating the remains, even when he's not, the other fish don't touch it. If so I'll get rid of them but was told they don't, it's usually the other way round! I feed them daily so it'd not as if the they're hungry, but I'm at wits end here, and know that more will probably be digested over the next while!!

Any help appreciated

Remove all dead fish, if you cant find the rest turn the tank upside down till you do. If theres dead fish in the tank your going to get a huge ammonia spike which will wipe everything out.

Remove all dead fish

It's pretty impossible to turn the tank upside down, it's a wall tank. But this doesn't explain why they're dying in the first place or all would be dead as I left it a good 2 months after the first few were eaten.

I'm not sure it was meant literally - more like take everything out until you find them. Check in the filter if you can't find them anywhere else.

I think they key to you problems is likely to be ammonia spikes due to overcrowding. Your tank is quite small for the number of fish you have, especially after adding 8 new ones at once - do you have a test kit? can you provide details of water stats if so people might be able to help. If you dot have a test kit get your LFS to test your water and post the results. The key measure is ammonia.

Okay need some more info on this. But sure we can get to the bottom of it.

What size is the tank and what are the dimensions of the tank?

What are all the fish, all the shrimp and all the snails in the tank - exact numbers please. If you can post pics of your shrimp that would be good as well.

Just want to rule out some other things before we assume they are being eaten because there are lots of reasons as to why fish die and if you focus on one thing your always going to miss the main cause.

When you notice fish are missing how long is it between when you last saw them and when you noticed they had gone?

After the fish die have you done a water change?

What is your water change regime like?

Do any of your fish have white marks on them or white lips? Particularly white markings around the lips?

Have you dosed the tank with anything?

Also I hate to do it but a shop selling a tank with issues more fish kind of discredits them a lot IMO - they are just after your money.

If I have to guess at anything, I am wondering if your shrimp are not what you think they are.
