I just noticed the sticky - good explanation, reasoning and instruction - and of course, everyone has MS Paint.

Microsoft though, have a PowerToy called ImageResizer, right click he image (file or even in the XP preview), resize, select the size, sorted.

It makes you wonder why Microsoft don't include this kind of tool with the OS anyway!

It's here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
Right, near the bottom. ImageResizer.exe small and quick to install. (should work above XP too, and im pretty sure I used it on win2k but cannot remember!).
Or, Direct Link

Note: this provides no way to crop the image, so you will still want to use paint et al for cropping.

What about using the mod for ipboard to auto resize images so we can click to see the full image for a closer look (very handy!).

What i normally do is open the picture in windows picture and fax viewer, resize the window untill the pictures how i want it, print screen, past to paint, and 'select' then copy and paste. works perfect can have a border if you cut it with the border windows picture and fax viewer gives it.
