Today i went to a good Lfs and bought four of the more timid female bettas stuck in the little cups. The fish guy has four in his 3.5g long tank and I thought that was nonsense since they usually need a bigger space then that to get along, so I went at examend them for 15 minutes. there in perfect shape and don't even fight! So I decided I would get myself a 5 gallon and put four in there. Yes I know please don't flame me out. Anyways im just floating the bags right now so ill exame them once there in. If there getting to agressive I have two two gallon bowls and a ten gallon that I can seperate them into. hope it works out if not atleast I have a fall back plan.

well I got some other fish in there. Im kind of getting all those sorted out since I have some fish in there that are going to out grow the tank. My mom would also be abit mad at me for wasting all my money on this tank and then moving them around so unless I can show her there being agressive she'll be in one of her moods trust me you don;t want to get her into one of her moods. :p

No they do pretty good with other fish as long as they aren't to agressive (the other fish). Males can be in with other community fish and most will get along. But put two males into one tank and your in trouble. If your going to have a betta in a tank with mixed fish make sure theres no Gouramis or fin nippers!!

im going to go for dinner then let the bettas out. ill be on soon.

Cheers

ok guys let them in there doing ok. the only thing im worried about is that two of them keep flaring at each other and the other ones are fine. the two stay by eachother and havent attacked but they will flare. is this something to worry about??

Good for you. :good:

Girl bettas might fight at first, you shouldn't stop them unless it looks like they really want to kill each other. They need to develope a hierachy, just like any animals.

:/ guys?? little help...

ooh sorry didnt see your post thanks for that!! im glad to hear i was getting worried. so far no fights just some flaring two havent shown any agression yet. my favorite one (white body with nice red tails) is getting along good.

spoke to soon fightss going on!! there flaring and will attack eachother and spin around...how long shood i wait ??

I've got a 20G sorority with 7 females. At first there was a bit of bickering, but now they're fine. There were only two bites taken out of tails, though some of them did enjoy chasing the runt around :p Flaring is normal and they'll probably circle each other a bit--I know two of mine did, and they were sisters lol. Good luck with them :)

In reply to your post: Give them some time. They'll be fine, and they're probably sisters anyway. Don't worry, it should work out just fine :D

Never done this before but is there any damage done? If things look serious take one out...

yeah I think im going to move one...these things are really going at it! one niped a hole in the others fin... -_- yeah ill put one in the two gal. i have an id shark a cherry barb some tetras and a redtailed shark in the 10 gallon so im not sure if the betta would be fine in there.

I think you should give it a little more time. A bit of fighting is going to happen no matter what--better let them go ahead and sort it out. If you keep them apart for a while (say, a month) then decide to get a bigger tank and some more females, the four you have now are going to fight a heck of a lot more if you put them together then, because they're used to having a tank to themselves.

just floating him in a bag for the empty two gal shes right beside my male so i think hell have some fun...well its tolate now i dont have an aquarium salt. i watch these little hellas duick it out for like 5 mins. they were seriously bitting eachother nonstop. the three in there now are showinmg absolutly no agression (knock on wood). i was just really scared for them they were both shreading eachother. theres alot less aggresion now and the tank is alot less stressful to watch...
