I went to the store today to pick up some more algae wafers (mmm best way to spend your lunch hour) and when I decide to have a look at the fish there's a little boy in there who had literally no fins left....looks not too different to a little chap posted a while ago (sorry- I looked everywhere and couldn't find it!).

He's a red (probably veiltail). He was quite active in the tank at the shop and he was trying to wiggle his fins at me bless him! The chap in there during the week is very nice-he didn't realise this boy was in such a bad way as he'd been on his own all morning and when he went to check on the fish he never saw him.

I'll post pics when I get home as he's still at the shop (going to pick him up when I finish) but what's the best course of action to take?

Thanks guys!!

xx

Clean water, conditioned of course with a smidge of salt. I always give my poorly fish a heater as well. If he is just ragged I should just use salt unless there is definite streaking, fungus, spot etc.

We will need photos!

I'll get some piccis! He didn't like the tank I had for him (I think it was too big for him to swim up to the surface) so he's in the little tanks I use for temp housing during water changes atm, hopefully i'll be able to order a shallow tank tonight off the net. Pics to follow!

Good for you to spot and rescue him, you sound real kind I hope the effort will give you good rewards. I wish I were as brave.

piccis! I've named him Torpedo because he swims so fast due to his lack of fins
Sorry for the bad pics they are off my phone-I will take some better ones tomorrow.

lol see what i mean about him being active?? I was quite suprised at how fast he is-at least you can see his 'punky look' bless him!

I'll try with the SLR tomorrow to get a good pic!

Aww good on you for rescuing him.. :# Yeah he looks like the little male I rescued.. Good luck with him glad to hear he is eating like a little pig.. xx

Aww that's great you rescued him; wow he must be a fast-mover! LOL! :p
Congrats; I hope he continues to do well, eating is a good sign!
Did he start a bubblenest yet? :p
Once he starts growing his fins back in a bit, he'll be gorgeous; I always loved reds!

Thanks Heather I'm glad he's eating too-he seems to like catfish pellets because they sink and stay in one place. He's about a third of the size of all my other males-it's quite funny as he was flaring like mad at one of the 'bigger boys'. He obviously has little man syndrome

 Aww cute.. You will have to get some more pics up.. Im still on the look out for another rescue Im sure it wont be long until I find one.. :( x

Update-Went away this weekend and came back to at least 5mm new fin growth AND a bubblenest!! Bless him!

Will get some photos later on-can't believe how well he's doing.

You are such a good betta mommy! You are doing such an awesome job! Can't wait to see the pics!
