I'd like to use sand for my two new betta tanks, but I don't want to use playsand and I'm having troulbe finding sand (like the Taihitan Moon Sand). Would reptile sand be ok to use? Will it raise the pH too high? I noticed alot of them are colored. Would the color seap into the water?

look for silica sand its safe. ive got sand in my breeding tanks and its a nuisance to keep clean

I've had sand before, but I actually prefer it to gravel. :) And I plan on having dwarf cories or a ADF in there as well, so I figure that would be easier on their stomachs.

Yeah, I've used it before and didn't really care for the look of it.

try pool filter sand or all purpose sand.

I wouldn't use the reptile sand unless I contacted the manufacturer. For quick reference check the writing on the bag and see if it says "not for use in aquarium" It's not a sure thing that it's safe if it doesn't say that but it is a sure thing that it's not if it does =)

Depends on the type of reptile sand, reptile sand frequently has additives like calcium to help the reptiles.
So it would play havoc on your water stats.

Pool filter sand? Thats a new one thanks for the info torrean, Thats alot easier for me to locate than aquarium sand or play sand. Only one pet shop sells sand and it's $4.50 for 1 kilo.... and getting play sand is a pain at times.
